Maria Flores Hatem, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2023, in Houston, TX, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Binan, Laguna, Philippines in 1943, Maria’s vibrant spirit touched the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She traversed the map of life, leaving a lasting impact in Chicago, New Orleans, Lafayette, LA, and finally, Houston, TX, where she spent her last years.

Maria was a force of nature—feisty, fun-loving, and full of life. Her laughter echoed through the years, a testament to her joyous approach to life. With a career spanning over 40 years as a dedicated Medical Technologist, Maria’s commitment to her work showcased her unwavering dedication and passion for helping others.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Maria had a keen eye for beauty. Her love for fashion and interior design reflected her exquisite taste and creative spirit. However, to those who knew her best, Maria was synonymous with the joy of dancing and being the life of the party. Her presence illuminated any gathering, turning ordinary moments into cherished memories.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Delfin Flores and Gertrudes Alsim, and her late husband, Dr. Ali Hatem. She is survived by her loving children, Miriam Smith (Botie), Florante Baldado Jr. (Jun-Jun), Roey Baldado (Roey-Roey), Ahmed Hatem, and Jasmine Hatem, as well as her extended family. Maria’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those she leaves behind, a testament to the love and warmth she shared.

In her final years, Maria faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s dementia with grace and courage. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at the Heritage of Meyerland for their dedicated support and care during this difficult time.
